TEACHING BUILT INTO THE RESOURCE

A learning journey.
Not just a resource library.

Reach for the Star is being developed around a simple idea: resources should teach learners independently as well as support teachers.

The ★5 Learning Model

Our working five-stage framework brings together explanation, active thinking, practice, feedback and reflection. It is inspired by established learning principles; it is not presented as an independently validated intervention.

01

Teach

Activate relevant prior knowledge. Introduce the idea with explicit explanations and worked examples.

02

Understand

Connect ideas, explain reasoning and address common misconceptions.

03

Practice

Move from supported tasks towards more independent application.

04

Progress

Use formative checks and feedback to identify and revisit gaps.

05

Succeed

Apply learning in a summative task, reflect and identify the next step.

Support and challenge, throughout.

Scaffolding, differentiated tasks, SEND and accessibility considerations, stretch and higher-order thinking are design requirements throughout the proposed sequence. Teacher guidance should explain how to adapt the learning, not simply provide answers.

Independent does not mean unsupported.

Explanations, examples and feedback give learners a route through unfamiliar material. Flipped-learning tasks prepare learners for lessons; workbooks and activities help them revisit and apply what they have learnt.

Designed with accessibility in mind.

The prototype uses keyboard-accessible controls, labelled inputs, responsive layouts and text-based teaching. Resource development will need accessible document structures, clear language and suitable alternatives to visual information, with testing involving users with different needs.

From design intention to evidence.

Specification mapping, editorial checks, accessibility review and piloting are work still to be completed. We make no guarantee of particular grades, savings or attainment gains. The brand and framework remain in development.
